Hello, this is where MY Designs will post links that may be of interest to others. I spend a lot of time on the computer, obviously...and I often come across sites or blogs that I want to share with others.
I also invite you to join the conversation, if you feel so inclined, and share sites that may add to the thread.

I am inspired my many things and many people. But probably the one thing that will inspire me faster than anything else is texture. I don't know why, but I respond to the feel of something...or just the look of a texture. It engages me immediately.
I have so many photographs of walls, pavement, moss, tree bark...it's funny, when we go on a family outing, I am taking pictures of strange things. But it's okay my family understands!

| We visited Nocalula Falls in Gadsden, Alabama this weekend. Most people have never even heard of Gadsden, it's a town that has been passed by and passed over for many years, but we visit often as we have family there. There's an amazing waterfall and park there that has a trail that allows you to walk behind the cascading water, truly an awesome experience. So many textures there, and the sound of the rushing water drowns out any other sound. Very inspiring. |

This weekend we went to this great arts festival they hold each year in Huntsville, called Panoply. Lots to look at and eat, and do. By far my favorite thing is the Drum Circle. This is where people just sit down in front of a drum or other percussion instrument, and we all jam together. Now I do not play any instruments. And I am positive the group was made up of many others who did not either. That's what is so cool about it. When we are all playing together it sounds good, like it was planned...like we knew what we were doing. It was awesome.
At first when everyone started it was complete dischord...no rhythm. Then the leader came in, and somehow a pattern started to emerge...slowly we all started falling into a definte rhythm, within about 5 minutes we were sounding good. As we focused on this guy in the center of the tent, we were listening to the whole sound-not just ourselves individually.
And I have to think that is like life, we are all doing our own thing..our own drums so to speak, but to God it must sound pretty awful. When we focus on ONE leader, the one who is standing in the center of everything and can see all of us..and hear all of us...our own unique sound is blended in with the rest of the universe. We do not lose our individuality...we are made stronger in our harmony.
And the really interesting part was that while we were waiting for the leader to come into the tent, we anticipated his presence, we knew he would make music from out mayhem. It's such a good illustration of how, as a Christian, I anticipate and hunger for God's presence in my life. So the big question is, why do I still resist his gentle direction sometimes? |

Happy 4th of July! We celebrate Freedom and Independence today. Thank God for that. And thank you to the men and women in service both present and past.
Design is freedom. Even when there are strict parameters to work with, there are still opportunities to make selections of some parts or even just attitude towards the project.
Design is choice. Have you ever counted the number of decisions or choices made in one project? I haven't but I will as an experiment...I'll let you know what I come up with.
Design is Independence. I used to keep a sign that read, "Creativity is new ways of arranging old bits and pieces". 20 people can take the same 20 elements of a project, and come up with 20 completely different designs. That's independent thinking!
I love being a designer. |
